The Good we do, Soothing the pain/need
Sometimes the good we do for others is really a way to mask the pain or need in oneself. It becomes a drug... good deeds that is! Yes, good deeds do something in us. It uplifts us, because we are made to be a blessing to others. And so this drug is like no other and it can become even worse than any other drug. We could miss eternity, because of this.
We are made to live a purposeful life. Made for transformation. The only thing is that we so easily get stuck in a season or stage of our life. Something that's meant to take you to the next level, becomes a stumbling block.
Maybe it's that friendship with someone that allows you to stay in a place of mediocrity (Instead of iron sharpening iron, you tell each other that it's okay to continue in the wrong lifestyle). Maybe it is that job that keeps you so busy and out of touch with what dreams and desires God placed in your heart, but you stay because it pays you well. Maybe it's watching television when you should be studying or spending time to hear from God what He wants you to do next. Maybe you have friends that fill the loneliness in your heart, because your marriage isn't what it should be and you are just not willing to put in the work to get to a better place. Maybe God is calling you to another country or industry and fear is stopping you from pursuing it; instead of doing this you just start a feeding or other ministry where you are (it is good and it feels good, but is it God?).
Imagine if David decided to stay in the sheep pen, Moses decided to stay in the palace or Midian and Jonah the boat?
You see, the worm (caterpillar) doesn't know what it's end result will be. All it does is to eat until it is time for it to be wrapped in the cocoon for transformation to start. This time which seems to the outside world, as the time of rest or hibernation; it really becomes a messy and uncomfortable process. Yet, it is a very important process/phase. And indeed, we go through these seasons just like the butterfly's process. We are in need of complete transformation, not only in form and function, but also in purpose. God doesn't show us the full picture immediately and for that reason we must keep pushing through. Keep seeking His face and wait on His perfect timing.
If anything stops or impedes the process, the end result will not be as intended.
So the question is this,: "Do we keep doing what we are comfortable with or that feels good"? Or do we stop and take stock of what we are doing and the reason we are doing it? When we stop and assess, we are really giving God the time to speak and help us remove what needs to be removed. When we allow the mess and go through the process we are assured to come out on the other side without a MASK and with a purposeful life. It is of no use doing good, if it's not the good God intended for you to do.
The saying, "No pain, no gain; No mess, no message", comes to mind. Dare I say, " No process, no power!"
My thoughts today...
Be quiet, wait and at the appointed time MOVE!
I dare you to do what would seem to the outside world as selfish and/or crazy.
Because sometimes that is the only way to reach your full potential.
God will show you and give you peace when the time is right.
It is your job to be courageous !
THERE IS NO EASY WAY FROM WORM TO BUTTERFLY...
TAKE COURAGE AND CRAWL SO YOU CAN EVENTUALLY FLY!
